A question about a recipe: Black Bean Soup Topped with Lime-Toasted Pepitas and Roasted Sweet Potatoes

I have a question about the recipe "Black Bean Soup Topped with Lime-Toasted Pepitas and Roasted Sweet Potatoes" from AntoniaJames. Hi! This looks great. Quick question, do we add the broth and veggies to the beans while they are cooking, or do we cook the beans separately and then add the broth at the end?
