If you head toward Portland on Hwy 18 (just north of Lincoln City), stop at the Otis Cafe for breakfast. It's just a few miles up the highway. Also if you go through McMinnville there are lots of great places to eat -- my lunch favorite is the Red Fox Bakery. They have great sandwiches which come with macaroons. Not a place to eat, but a good leg stretch is the Darlingtonia wayside -- it's just north of Florence and has a 1/4 mile boardwalk through a patch of pitcher plants.

DO stop at Cannon Beach and spend the night (Stephanie's is nice), go into Cannon Beach and there is a pizza parlour in the middle of town ("town" is only two blocks long so easy to find) and order the "haystack pizza" with fresh tomato on the side.
When you get to Portland, rather than go to any restaurant, seek out a food truck - anyone will do - they are all great.
Enjoy the drive - it one of the nicest drives on this planet !
Do the tour of Tillamook Cheese.
IF you go via Seaside, Oregon before heading inland to Portland, buy a bag of salt water taffy.

For those of us who live in Eureka, California, the Carter House Restaurant 101 is hard to beat! It has stars for its wine cellar too. Superb!
