Thx for suggesting I give away the file -- but I hope to see some new ideas about using it in recipes ( I can include the suggestions when I ribbon up the extra file)
aw darn, i should have understood that; sorry. Well, afaik, it is only used in cajun cooking, and i have never ever seen it in a non-cajun recipe (maybe that's just me), so my best suggestion (since i, personally, cannot think outside the box on this one) is to google 'file powder and cajun' or 'file powder and recipes' to see other possibilities.
Creole themed gift baskets. If not already in nice glass jars suitable size for one household to use in a year, repack & label the file. Make up baskets with themes...Creole condiments, all the raw ingredients for a file plus your best gumbo recipe...give to your friends, dinner-party hosts or colleagues who like to cook.
nancy, can you hear the Twilight Zone theme song playing in the background? So often i seem to think like you!
My version of an answer to this is to put the extra file in a small spice jar w/ a ribbon around it, and give it as a holiday or house gift, accompanying a tub of Gumbo.
LeBecFin...what a nice comment. Should we write under a common byline or just take every othe day off? Or is Rod Serling our spiritual papa, smiling in heaven as he reads food52?
