If I put fast rising yeast in warm water with sugar is that wrong...? Like will that make the yeast not work?

It should absolutely make yeast work, unless water was too hot (above 125 or 130F) -- that will kill the yeast.

No, it's the same yeast, just processed a little differently.

Sugar should make the yeast bubble. If this doesn't hapen, check the yeast package to see if it is too old.
