Thanksgiving Southern Sweet Potato Pecan Bake

This is a old family recipe that I came across in Florida. It has become a favorite for the holidays and potlucks.


Serves: 6 to 8 as a side dish



  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1/3 cup butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup pecan pieces

Sweet Potato

  • 3 cups canned yams
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 cup evaporated milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon

  1. Mix all of topping ingredients and set aside.

Sweet Potato

  1. In a medium saucepan stir all ingredients over low heat until well mixed and sugar dissolves. Remove from heat and pour into a casserole dish. Top with pecan mixture and bake in oven at 300 degrees F for one hour, until bubbly and browned. Serve hot.
