Double Vanilla Holiday Cut-Out Cookies

Author Notes

The Holidays are not complete without a day of making cut-out cookies. This is the recipe I have been using for years. A simple batter goes into the refrigerator to chill so that it can be cut into festive shapes and baked. The cookie itself is crisp and buttery with a smooth vanilla flavor. You can stop right there and enjoy them as is, but a thin layer of vanilla icing with the obligatory colorful sprinkles takes them over the top. By the way, Santa loves these. —Waverly

She is teaching them, one meal at a time, to enjoy wholesome homemade food. She abhors processed food but recognizes its insidious nature and accepts the fact that her children will occasionally get some Skittles, Doritos, or the like. Her philosophy and hope is that if she teaches them well at home, they will prefer wholesome healthy foods when they go out into the world without her.
