Author Notes

A deceptively simple, 3-ingredient cocktail for before dinner, after work, and during any cocktail party you'll ever throw.

For the sweet vermouth, stick with something simple like Cinzano or Dolin Rouge are. Stock your bar with Luxardo for the maraschino, which is the most popular and readily available, and really shines in a cocktail when used with restraint, like in the Martinez. Lastly, the orange bitters: If you can get your hands on some Regan’s Orange Bitters, your Martinez, and anyone you serve them to, will thank you. —Erik Lombardo

Very good! I didn’t have Maraschino Liquer so used Chambord.

I recently tried a riff on this drink that caught my attention. They swapped 2parts vermouth and 1 part gin. ( A good red vermouth matters here. Do your best. Fresh matters (store it in the fridge) the same orange bitters, maybe just 1 dash, and 1/2 - 1 t. of luxardo maraschino liqueur. It's really suited as an apperitif and just delicious. Worth a try since you might have the ingredients.

I live in San Francisco and was given a recipe for a Martinez by a great bartender with a good story, regarding this drink. Had too many and lost the recipe-thanks for giving it up while I am sober.

Thank goodness I found you. I love the receipts, the look and the scope of your site. Please keep it up. I will recommend it to my friends, too.
