Author Notes

Dying for a cocktail that isn't a Mint Julep this Derby Day? The Derby is a classic that has somewhat fallen out of favor, unlike the big hats still synonymous with the Kentucky Derby. However, don't let that stop you from enjoying this brilliant bit of bourbon. This recipe is modified from Ted “Doctor Cocktail” Haigh’s personal favorite that made appearance in his 2009 book. —Cocktails, 365

What You'll Need
Ingredients
  • 3.0 ounces bourbon
  • 0.5 ounces sweet vermouth
  • 1.0 ounce orange curaçao
  • .75 ounces fresh lime juice
Directions
  1. Combine the ingredients in a cocktail shaker and fill with ice.
  2. Shake well and then strain into a chilled martini glass.

This is a very strong drink. Good but beware. It will slap your face.
