Author Notes: This soda bread is very simple to realize, delicious and healthy. Enjoy! —Mary Devinat
Makes 1 medium loaf
- 2 cups wholemeal flour
- 1/2 rolled oats
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 4 tablespoons flaxseed
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1 tablespoon honey
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Prepare a baking sheet covered with baking paper and sprinkle a little wholemeal flour.
- Mix the flour, oats, flaxseed, baking soda and salt. Form a small pit in the center and add the buttermilk and honey. Knead by hand. When dough is smooth (it is normal that it remains sticky) form a ball.
- Place the ball on your cooktop. Using a large knife, draw a fairly deep cross. Sprinkle the bread with a little wholemeal flour. Bake for 45 minutes at 400°F (200°C).
