Author Notes

"Coffee really lends something to this cocktail. Many versions replace an ingredient with coffee, but I think that knocks the drink out of kilter. An equal measure of cold brew adds another dimension without destroying the equilibrium." — Chloë Callow in "Cold Brew Coffee: Techniques, Recipes, & Cocktails for Coffee's Hottest Trend" —Food52

Test Kitchen Notes

As much as we love an Espresso Martini, we're always on the hunt for the next coffee beverage. Enter: the Cold Brew Negroni. Slightly bitter, slightly sweet, and very smooth, this cocktail gives us the best of both worlds. The herbal notes of the gin add aromatic depth, while the acidic brightness of the orange peel accentuates the richer notes of the cold brew coffee. This recipe serves one, but don't be afraid of tripling (or quadrupling) this cocktail to batch it out for a dinner party or soirée.

Chloë Callow recommends Antica Formula vermouth for her Cold Brew Negroni because its richness counteracts the bitterness of the coffee. We used La Copa vermouth, which worked well. —Food52

Can you please clarify if this calls for dry or sweet vermouth? I am not experienced at making negronis. Thanks!

Love a good negroni and think I’ll try to make this- thoughts on switching in some homemade Kahlua for the cold brew?

My concern is that that's a lot of sugar at that point. But, if you tried it, how was it?

You're absolutely right-it was too much sugar and I didn't like it enough to try to tinker with the remainder of the ingredients (did briefly think of decreasing vermouth).
