Jam Cake with Black Walnuts

Author Notes: This recipe has been handed down for generations in my husband's family. One aunt knew the recipe "by heart". It's what all the men want
for their birthdays. It is often served with caramel icing.

Looks unusual, and good. Is there a particular kind of jam you like best? Also, have you ever tried it as a sheet cake?
