All the ingredients are the same (almost) as those in apple pie. Why not a jam that can be used as a topping on toast, muffins and pancakes to name a few places? —dymnyno

Ingredients
  • 8 cups apples, peeled, cored and chopped
  • 4 1/2 cups apple juice
  • 3 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 3 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 2 teaspoons ground ginger
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1 cup golden raisins, chopped
  • 1/2 cup rum
  • 10 cups sugar
  • 2 boxes pectin (6 ounces liquid pectin)
Directions
  1. Peel, core and chop the apples
  2. Put the apples and the apple juice plus all the lemon juice and spices in a large pot and pour the pectin over it and stir together.
  3. Put the raisins in the rum and set aside to plump up.
  4. Bring the apples to a rolling boil and keep stirring.
  5. Add the raisins (discard the rum) and sugar and keep stirring. Bring back to a rolling boil for a few minutes, and remove from the flame.
  6. Ladle into pint jars and process.
