Ingredients
  • Cottage Frame
  • 7.5 cups Rice Krispies Holiday Cereal
  • 250 grams Package of Marshmallows
  • 1/4 cup Butter
  • 1 splash Vanilla Extract
  • Assembly & Decorating Guide
  • 2 cups White Icing
  • Candy-coated chocolate
  • Red/green/blue candy-coated chocolates
  • Green Candy Trees
  • Jujubes
  • Other candies or sprinkles to help decorate the cottage
Directions
  1. Cottage Frame
  2. In large saucepan melt butter over low heat. Add marshmallows and stir until completely melted. Remove from heat and add Rice Krispies cereal. Stir until well coated.
  3. Using buttered spatula or wax paper evenly press mixture into 2 pans (recommend using a 9.5 x 13.5 and an 8 x 11 inch pan).
  4. Ensure you spread out the mixture thinner than you would if you were making the squares, less than an inch thick. Allow to cool for 1.5 hours.
  5. Print the pattern on a standard 8.5 x 11 sheet of paper (see the pattern here: https://bit.ly/39ugUSI) and cut out the pieces from the pattern and set aside.
  6. Once the Rice Krispies mixture has cooled, place the cut out pattern pieces on top of your pan of Rice Krispies mixture. Using a knife, follow the pattern to cut 2 of the walls, 2 of the door pieces with the triangle peak, and 2 roof pieces. You’ll end up with 6 pieces (2 of each total).  Leave them on a cutting board on the counter overnight to firm up.
  1. Assembly & Decorating Guide
  2. Fill an icing piping bag with a “flower tip” to ice the cottage. You can also simply fill a plastic storage bag and cut a small corner off the end and use that to ice your cottage.
  3. Now it’s time to assemble the cottage, take one of the front pieces and stand it up on your cutting board or plate.  Then, take the right wall piece and place it on the outside edge of the front piece.
  4. Next, place the left wall on the outside edge of the front piece and take the second front piece and place it in the middle of the two wall pieces at the back. The ooey-gooey goodness of the Rice Krispies mixture acts as a glue to help them hold.
  5. Secure the walls with a few toothpicks inserted in the edge of the walls and pushed into the front pieces, if needed.
  6. To place the roof, follow similar steps above, and place the right side then the left. Don’t be afraid to press and manipulate the pieces to stick and fit well together!
  7. Grab your icing bag. I chose a floral tip because I find it very forgiving and it creates a nice snow/icicle effect.
  8. Add icing along the roof where the left and right pieces connect.
  9. Ice along the front ridges of the roof and along the edges where the front and wall pieces connect.
  10. Last, add candy and decoration anywhere you like!
