Meatball Sub Sandwich

Why not treat yourself and your family to a great meatball sandwich? In addition, we will cook meatballs and sauce ourselves. You can't find a more homemade sandwich. —Anna Vorobiova

What You'll Need
Ingredients
  • For Meatballs and Sauce
  • 450 grams ground beef
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tablespoons basil leaves, finely chopped
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 teaspoon fenugreek powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon mix of 5 peppers
  • Salt to taste
  • Corn flour for rolling
  • Olive oil for frying
  • 1 cup canned tomatoes, peeled and chopped
  • 4 garlic cloves, finely chopped
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 sprigs basil, finely chopped
  • 1 hot pepper, finely chopped
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • For Sub Sandwich
  • 4 hot dog buns
  • 1/2 cup grated mozzarella cheese
  • 2 tablespoons fresh cilantro, finely chopped
  • Arugula (optional)
Directions
  1. For Meatballs and Sauce
  2. Mix ground beef with spices (2 tbsp basil leaves, nutmeg, fenugreek powder, salt, and pepper), add egg, basil, and stir well. Let rest for 10-15 minutes.
  3. Heat olive oil in a skillet. Roll the minced meat into 1.5-inch balls. Roll the balls in cornflour and fry for 3 minutes for all sides. Meatballs are done.
  4. Let's make the sauce. Heat oil in a skillet, add garlic, onion, and hot peppers to cook quickly (about 2 minutes), stirring constantly.
  5. Pour tomatoes, stir, add basil, sugar, salt and simmer for 10 minutes or until excess moisture evaporates.

  2. Cut buns lengthwise and heat it slightly on the grill (or in your oven), literally 1-2 minutes.
  3. Spread the sauce evenly on both halves of each bun. Arrange the meatballs, sprinkle with cheese and cilantro (add arugula, if use), and serve immediately.
