This cocktail originated in a ginger beer factory run as a subsidiary to the Royal Naval Officer's Club in Bermuda. According to legend, it was either the naval officers or the sailors that discovered that a splash of the locally made Goslings Black Seal Rum was just what the ginger beer was missing. Its name is said to have come from an old fisherman, who observed that the drink looked like the "color of a cloud only a fool or dead man would sail under." —Food52
