What You'll Need
Ingredients
-
1
loaf bread
-
2 cups
leftover turkey shredded or chopped
-
1/2 cup
leftover cranberry sauce
-
1/2 cup
shredded cheese (cheddar or mozarella
-
1/4 cup
leftover gravy (optional)
-
1
olive oil (for brushing)
-
salt and pepper to taste
-
1/4 teaspoon
dried thyme or sage
-
fresh parsley or chives, chopped (for grarnish)
Directions
- Prepare the Bread: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Slice the loaf of bread horizontally and vertically to create a crosshatch pattern. Be careful not to cut all the way through the bottom—this will allow you to stuff the bread but keep it intact. Place the bread on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or aluminum foil.
- Make the Stuffing Mixture: In a large bowl, combine the shredded turkey, leftover stuffing, and shredded cheese. If you prefer a moister stuffing, add the gravy to the mixture and stir well. Stir in the cranberry sauce, and season the mixture with salt, pepper, and thyme or sage (optional). You want the mixture to be well-combined and flavorful.
- Stuff the Bread: Gently pull apart the cuts in the bread with your fingers or a spoon, creating gaps between each slice. Begin stuffing the bread with the turkey-stuffing mixture. Pack the filling into each section of the bread, making sure it’s as tight as possible without tearing the bread. If you have extra stuffing or cheese, top the bread with it. Drizzle the top of the bread with olive oil to help it crisp up as it bakes.
- Bake the Stuffed Bread: Cover the bread loosely with foil and bake for about 20 minutes. After 20 minutes, remove the foil and continue baking for an additional 10-15 minutes, or until the bread is crispy on the outside and the stuffing is heated through and bubbly.
- Garnish and Serve: Remove the stuffed bread from the oven and let it cool for a couple of minutes before slicing. Garnish with freshly chopped parsley or chives for a burst of color and freshness. Serve warm as a side dish, appetizer, or light main course.
