Author Notes

While horror movies like the new Oscar nominee, The Substance, might not be your thing, here is a recipe for vibrantly green, substance-inspired Midori sour shots to liven up your Oscar’s watch party. They’re no less complicated to make than any other jello shot, but are definitely all there in flavor. Disclosure, the flavor was inspired by the Midori Sour jello shots by Solid Wiggles, a business that takes jello shots to a whole new level.

What You'll Need
Ingredients
  • 2 cups water (or 1 cup water plus 1 cup ice)
  • 1/2 cup (100 grams) granulated sugar
  • 2 1/2 teaspoons unflavored gelatin
  • 1/4 cup freshly squeezed lemon juice
  • 1/4 cup freshly squeezed lime juice
  • 1/2 cup vodka
  • 1/4 cup Midori
  • 3 drops yellow food coloring (optional)
  • 1 drop green food coloring (optional)
  • Edible gold glitter for garnish, if desired
Directions
  1. Assemble 12 to 14 shot glasses (depending on size) on a tray or large plate.
  2. In a medium saucepan over high heat, combine the water and sugar. Bring to a boil and stir until the sugar has dissolved. Remove it from the heat and stir in the gelatin until completely dissolved.
  3. Transfer it to a bowl and stir the lemon and lime juice. Let it cool slightly, then stir in the vodka and Midori. Add the food coloring to make the green extra bright.
  4. Use a ladle to divide the mixture into the shot glasses. Transfer the tray to the fridge and let the jello set for 3 to 4 hours, or preferably overnight. Serve sprinkled with edible gold glitter, if desired.
