Turn berries into a dessert by mixing them with citrus sugar and topping with fresh whipped cream. It makes for an easy, refreshing treat—or a sweet breakfast bowl topping.

What You'll Need
Ingredients
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • Juice and finely grated zest of 1 lemon and 1 lime
  • 2 pints blueberries
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 2 tablespoons confectioners’ sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)
Directions
  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the granulated sugar and citrus juices and zest and stir together so that the sugar dissolves. Add the berries and toss them gently so that they’re coated with the liquid and sugar mixture. Let them sit for 10 minutes or so while you whip the cream.
  2. In a separate large mixing bowl, combine the heavy cream, confectioners’ sugar and vanilla extract, if using. Use a large whisk or a hand blender to whip the cream to soft peaks.
  3. Divide the berries and accumulated juices into four serving bowls. Top each serving with about ¼ cup of whipped cream, and serve.
