A question about a recipe: Creamy Homemade Ricotta

I have a question about the recipe "Creamy Homemade Ricotta" from Jennifer Perillo.
It's hard to find buttermilk in Jerusalem. Usually I just substitute yogurt, or add a squeeze of lemon juice to some milk to curdle it. Would that work in this recipe? If not, how do I get around my lack of buttermilk?

Here's a video of Amanda making ricotta without buttermilk. I've made it both ways and love both.

If you look in the comments to the recipe, you'll see that subs are discussed.
