The recipe doesn't say what to do with the half of a persimmon listed in the ingredients. Is it just for garnish?

Hi Crystal,

It does appear that the half persimmon is just used as a garnish; however, the recipe is not Test-Kitchen Approved, so I can't say for sure. As an alternative, you could also try baking our California Persimmon Pudding, which is similar to Figgy Pudding. It's great for the holidays and has been tested and approved by our editorial staff

If you look closely at the author's photographs, it does look as if there are tiny persimmons in the cake. You’re right, though. The instructions are not clear. If you want to try a well tested cake using persimmons, look at this recipe: https://food52.com/recipes/7695-maple-persimmon-upside-down-cake-with-maple-cream
