Urgent! What spices should I use in the Crispy Spice-Brined Pecans I plan to use in the Not-Too-Virtuous Salad with Caramelized Apple Vinaigrette?

Here's a link to my recipe for Crispy Spice-Brined Pecans. http://www.food52.com/recipes... I'm wondering what spices and/or type of citrus you would use to flavor pecans that were to be tossed in this salad. I need to get them soaking right now! Thanks, everyone. ;o)

Since there's fennel in the salad, how about star anise and cinnamon? With orange?
