Put a Filter on It: Black and White

December  5, 2014

It's no secret -- we love a good 'gram. Here, we'll be posting our favorite Instagrams from the food world, on a different theme each week.

Today: Color can be overwhelming. Let's return to black and white (if only for a week).

At Food52, we are not afraid of color; we love the color of kale so much, in fact, that we designed our logo around it. But when the world gets to be too much -- when piles of shiny gifts and brightly-iced cookies kaleidoscope into a world that looks like Times Square after nightfall -- we need a change of pace.

In black and white, swirl frostings are dramatic (exhibit A: this photo from jelitodeleon), stand mixers are monumental, and tea pots become crystal balls. Take off your rose-colored glasses and put on a pair of black and white shades instead. Then share your photo with us.

We want your 'grams! Follow us, then tag your black and white photos with #f52grams -- we'll repost our favorites.

See what other Food52 readers are saying.

I used to work at Food52. I'm probably the person who picked all of the cookie dough out of the cookie dough ice cream.

Nice photograph. Oddly, not black and white.
