Mother's Day

7 Recipes Our Moms Cooked for Us

May  2, 2015

We asked the Food52 team, "Who has changed the way you cooked?" Not surprisingly, the majority of the answers were "My mom." At the Food52 office, moms are often a part of the food conversation, whether we're recounting our mom's infamous boiled brussels sprouts or baking a cake inspired by an editor's mom. Whether she cooked from scratch every night, considered boxed macaroni and cheese to be a well-rounded representation of the food pyramid, or was renowned for her tuna salad—and only her tuna salad—it's often our moms' recipes that we turn to for comfort and meal inspiration. In honor of Mother's Day, here are some of our favorite recipes from our own moms:

This sour cream pound cake, enjoyed by hundreds of dinner party guests and extended family members over the years: I have made it many times as well! The photo posted with the recipe was actually taken at the first Food52 potluck I hosted, in the spring of 2010. Of course, I made this cake as well for the large party we had shortly after Mother died, the day after Mother's Day, 2 years ago. ;o)
