1 Minute Meal: The Fabric of New York at the Queens International Night Market

October 15, 2015

When John Wang set out to build New York's first true night market, he ended up attracting mostly Asian food vendors. But over the months, his vision of a truly international, yet fiercely local experience gradually fell into place. The dishes being offered showcase the international reach of Queens, but the range of families, food enthusiasts, and passersby who frequent the market has shown the rest of New York what a food market with inclusion as one of its main goals feels like.

Approaching the end of its first year of operation, the Queens International Night Market has earned its reputation as the kind of Saturday night celebration that could only be found in "the world's borough."

1 Minute Meal is a micro-documentary series dedicated to capturing the many faces of New York City through the lens of food.
