Food52 App

Can You Identify Our New App Logo?

March 24, 2016

UPDATE AND ANSWER! Thanks to everyone who commented here and on social media. While my favorite guesses included "thought bubbles," "plates," and "camera lenses," the vast majority of you (understandably) went with Champagne. But what's actually depicted in our new app logo? Boiling water! Gloria Franco Reynolds put it very nicely: "Boiling water. No doubt. In fact I can almost hear those bubbles from Spain telling us they're ready to receive eggs, pasta, rice, veggies... In Spanish we have an expression: "algo se está cociendo" (something is brewing)... And I think with this app and logo something is definitely going to happen!" So why yellow? We just wanted to be sure you didn't miss it.

In case you missed it, we just launched an iOS app! It's called (Not)Recipes and it's the best new way to get inspired in the kitchen, by seeing in realtime what fellow home cooks are actually whipping up. (Find it here or by searching for "Food52" in the App Store on your iPhone.)

In celebration of the launch, we have an important poll we'd like for you to participate in: What's depicted in the app icon?

  • a) Cheese
  • b) Champagne
  • c) Boiling water
  • d) A sponge
  • e) other: _____________

And furthermore, which would you prefer that it be?

bubble tea. or plates. or cheese. or champagne. or boiling water. or a sponge.

Panfusine March 24, 2016
definitely A, B & C.. but now I can't seem to 'unsee' the 'D', sponges remind me of the inevitable clean up!

I totally assumed it was cheese, but now..... champagne?!

Boiling water......although the color isn't quite calling to me. I know that color is very on trend and I want to feel the love for it. The app is fabulous, loving it!

Champagne, please!

Being from Wisconsin, I am going to say Cheese!
Boiling water has my vote as most recipes include it. Plus it brings in the vision of the app to bring items together.

Champagne, of course! What a ridiculous question. (Just kidding.) ;o)

P.S. Since you're asking about preferences, may I mention that my first impression and current take on the logo is that it's inconsistent with Food52's overall branding, which tends to be clean and elegant. The color doesn't do anything for me -- it has a muddy quality inconsistent with aforementioned attributes -- and there needs to be more contrast in the design (as it looks timid and wishy-washy). Trying to be helpful here . . . .

Bubbles and champagne and cheese. the color looks like cheese. The bubbles look like champagne and boiling water.

Bubbles - either Champagne (color) or boiling water (color hopefully not a clue.)

Boiling water better conveys the concept of whipped up food with wide appeal...unless you're trying to suggest hoity toity casual food.

We actually had a discussion at our table about this the other day and I thought it was plates....I'll vote bubbly.

Rhonda35 March 23, 2016
My vote is Champagne and, even if I'm wrong, it will always be Champagne to me! #bubblyeveryday

Champagne! (Always)

I love this conversation. And I know the answer but I'm not telling (yet)!

It has to be champagne, because all the little swirls on the bubbles are going in different directions. Or maybe its the whole kitchen the the swirly dots are the smells and steams and good feelings of an awesome kitchen...

Boiling water! -- since the App is all about capturing casual, everyday cooking while it's happening (not just the styled end product).
