The internet is brutal/wonderful for many reasons, not least of which is because you can get pretty much instant feedback on any idea you might have. So when we tossed our baby, the spankin' new (Not)Recipes app, into the ether this morning, we knew you'd have some things to say about it.
The good news was that overwhelmingly, the initial responders can be categorized as "thrilled" and/or "stoked," "excited," or "freaking out."
For example, it's clear that some of you totally get us—which is the very. best. feeling!
No excuse 4 not sharing your food! https://t.co/a5AguUCuIG— Alice Medrich (@AliceMedrich) March 23, 2016
@Food52 I make things and think, damn I wish I could share it on F52 but there's no time to upload it to the site.— Meenakshi S Nair (@meenaxis) March 22, 2016
@Food52 I am just five mins into the app and OMG I LOVE IT! I always rustle stuff up but rarely get a chance to make something for a contest— Meenakshi S Nair (@meenaxis) March 22, 2016
@Food52 Inspired by your (Not)Recipes app! Love cooking - following recipes not so much— Cynthia Houlton (@CynthiaHoulton) March 23, 2016
Funny thing about the new @Food52 app (Not)Recipes is that a few months ago, my dad and I thought this would be a great social network idea.— Ma'ayan Plaut (@maayanplaut) March 23, 2016
Finally, an app that mixes and twists recipes (and relies on photos) just like I do. https://t.co/ybCeZ9yHF7— Samantha Luthra (@SamanthaLuthra) March 23, 2016
Instead of building a recipe app, we went the other way. Meet (Not)Recipes, our new app! https://t.co/l4hQipTqDD— amandahesser (@amandahesser) March 23, 2016
Well okay, of course Amanda Hesser gets us. But others? They're feeling all the feelings:
I've had @Food52 (Not)Recipes app for 4 hours and it's already my favorite work-distraction app. At least I know what I'm eating for dinner!— Josh Gelfat (@JoshGelfat) March 23, 2016
.@Food52 has an app, which means my life just changed substantially for the better!— Hillary Kelly (@HillaryKelly) March 22, 2016
Just downloaded the new (Not)Recipes app from @Food52 ! So excited to use it 😍— Kelsey | Food Geek (@Kelsey_Tenney) March 23, 2016
If you are crazy about Food52 as I am (they were partners at More), download their great new app. Enjoy! https://t.co/uBvyBUY8kh— Lesley Jane Seymour (@lesleyjseymour) March 23, 2016
And apparently, the powers-at-be are enjoying it, too:
And of course, there are early critics—who we applaud for helping us map out the road ahead:
Regarding a search feature: Click on ingredients and hashtags to browse more specifically. We're working on a straight-up search bar!
Dear Android users: We hear you loud and clear! Meet our massive mobile app engineering team:
In other words, we didn't have the capacity to build both versions at once, so we started with iOS (since nearly half of the traffic to our site comes from iPhones and iPads!).
Regarding a "delete post" button: If you accidentally post something mortifying to the app, just email [email protected]
Dear Shit Food Blogger: At least you're trying!
Keep up the chatter! We love hearing from you about the app.
