Ever Wonder How Pez Candy is Made?

November  9, 2017

Do you know where Pez originated? Or where it got its name from? Or that the candy was originally marketed as an alternative to cigarettes? Honestly, I didn’t either. But I do now. Thanks to this Refinery29 video that pulls back the curtain on anything you ever wanted to know about Pez.

I love a good ‘How It’s Made’ video, and this rendition does not disappoint. It starts with a brief history of the candy before diving into all things production. The whole process begins with sugar. Lots of it. Like, 600-pound vats of it. After some processing, flavoring, coloring, and pressing, the sweet tiny tablets emerge. Then, machines slip them into the iconic dispenser—by far my favorite part—and off they go to be crushed between the teeth of some sugar-hungry child. Check out the video below to learn more about Pez.

There you have it—a piece-by-piece peek into the Pez process. Hope you enjoyed, I definitely did.

There's a PEZ visitor center not too far away from NYC in Orange CT (near New Haven Ct) just off of I-95. Definitely worth a visit when you are in the neighborhood.
