These 5 Kitchen All-Stars Are Our True Loves

We'd be lost without them.

February  7, 2019

I have this old serrated knife with a wide, rounded head. I got it from my mom who got it from her mom who bought it from a Cutco salesperson probably sometime in the seventies. It's sort of a spreader and sort of a spatula, but I use it for just about everything. It slices through bread just as well as it butters it; it divvies up a pan of brownies and wedges out the first one; it cuts tomatoes and cheese and steak (if I really need it to). I can't tell you how many other—and arguably better—knives I have, but it's the one that I somehow use the most, and the one that I really, really love.

And we all have a favorite, beloved tool that we gravitate to in the kitchen, right? Maybe it's an all-metal cookie scoop that's just the right size, or a T-shaped vegetable peeler that makes light work of a bag of carrots. It's the tool that makes our life so much easier and we'd probably be lost without (well, not really lost, but you get the point).

When it comes to the Shop, the Food52 team definitely has their faves. Our all-star email coordinator says her GreenPan is the slickest breakfast date, while our social-media whiz has an unbeatable coffee press. And there's more love to go around…

DANIELLE'S PICK

Food52 x GreenPan Nonstick Skillet

"Making eggs in this pan is such a joy. Not only does the nonstick ceramic coating cook everything perfectly, but it's also a breeze to clean."Danielle Curtis-Williams, Marketing Coordinator

CONNOR'S PICK

Collapsible Coffee Press

"I had never been interested in a single-cup brewer before this one, and it's changed my morning routine. The fact that it's such a lifesaver when traveling is just the cherry on top."Connor Bower, Social Media Manager

ANNALEE'S PICK

Lidded Pinch + Pour Beakers

"These have almost completely replaced my glass measuring cups. Pouring stock and wine into my sauces is much more precise and effortless. The silicone is easy to grip, and I can write on the lids when I need to store leftovers in the fridge."Annalee Leggett, Strategy and Finance Manager

KRISTEN'S PICK

Miyabi Birchwood Damascus Knife Collection

"I hate a clunky chef’s knife. These lightweight, incredibly sharp Japanese knives are the ones I always grab first in the Food52 test kitchen (before everyone else does)."Kristen Miglore, Creative Director, Genius

MAGGIE'S PICK

Dansk Vandvid Ceramics by Niels Refsgaard

"My Swedish grandma had a whole kitchen full of patterns much like this set—seeing them on the table is sort of like visiting her again. The unique shapes and hand-painted charm get so many compliments. And the best part? I can toss them in the dishwasher without fretting they’ll get chipped."Maggie Slover, Copywriter
