Sure, food photographer and photo editor James Pomerantz isn't Tim Gunn, or Freddie Prinze, Jr.—but we'll let that slide (for now). Who he is is someone who can bake a mean chocolate-chip cookie, with the help of Rose Levy Beranbaum's Rose's Baking Basics, and wash it down with a rum old-fashioned from Coconuts & Collards, by Von Diaz.

Oh, and he's also someone who is transported through space and time by reading of one of these cookbooks. Wanna know which?
