Happy Friday! We’re here to make it even happier with our mini-series, The Weekend Has Landed. All month long we’re sharing ideas to help you make the most of those precious 50-something hours.
I've been dreaming of palm trees, sunshine, and warm, crystal-blue water since what feels like forever ago (but really, October of last year). So now that winter is both officially and unofficially over (40-degree days, begone!), I'm planning a weekend getaway with a few of my friends to bask in the glorious weather and to reveal my ghostly pale legs and arms to the world.
My only criteria: The house I stay in must be on the beach, have enough room for at least four people, and be very beautiful. That's why I'm partial to Airbnb, which has some of the best options for big groups; I've learned that even a house that seems pricey can actually become pretty affordable when you split it a few ways.
In my hunt for the best beachfront Airbnb, I came across listings from around the country and beyond (Mexico and the Caribbean aren't that far, depending on where you live) that all fit the bill. Here are nine of my favorites:
1. Governor's Harbor, Bahamas
Although this charming cottage in the heart of the Bahamas was built in the 1850s as a ship captain's home, it's since been fully renovated so you won't miss out on modern amenities like stainless steel appliances and a luxurious en-suite bath.
2. Miami Beach, Florida
You won't have to travel far from this eclectic-yet-cozy condo to reach the hustle and bustle of South Beach. Set in one of the area's classic art deco buildings, it's just steps away from the beach—and nightlife—right on Ocean Drive.
Chill vibes abound at this four-bedroom ocean-view house just minutes from Santa Cruz's epic surf spots, hiking and biking trails, and laidback restaurant scene.
5. Soufriere, Saint Lucia
There's not much I need to say about this secluded tropical villa—just look at that view of the Caribbean Sea and St. Lucia's famous mountains, the Pitons. I'd say that view pretty much speaks for itself.
6. Ocean City, Maryland
This wood-paneled beachfront condo practically screams summer at the beach, with its cool ocean-blue color palette and straight-on views of the Atlantic Ocean.
7. Long Bay Hills, Turks & Caicos
You'll be hard pressed to find an Airbnb that takes indoor-outdoor living as seriously as this spacious, sun-filled villa, with a secluded path that takes you straight to the ocean, in the Turks and Caicos.
8. Montauk, New York
We can't get enough of the cozy, art-filled interior of this oceanside cottage in Montauk, one of Manhattanites' favorite summer escapes. Set on a lush, private knoll, this one-of-a-kind Airbnb is just steps away from the area's best beach and a 10-minute walk into town.
OMG that Turks and Caicos spot is A-Mazing!! Great article. I am a big fan of the Air BNB's..travelled 17 days in Europe last fall and used them exclusively and was not disappointed once.
#6, Ocean City, Delaware... There are 2 Ocean Cities on the East Coast, one in New Jersey, the other in Maryland. There is no Ocean City in Delaware, thinking this must be OC, MD, just south of the state line.
