As we enter the holiday season, many of us are planning our menus and thinking about what we will serve during this much needed time of family and friend gatherings. One stalwart of the holiday season is the trusty potato. Whether simply mashed with butter or served as a fancy bite topped with crème fraîche and caviar, the potato is a versatile ingredient ready for any challenge. In our latest contest, we want to see your best potato, all dressed up!

For this contest, we want you to get creative with your submissions and really elevate the humble potato (sweet potatoes count!). We welcome entries from any course (appetizers, sides, mains, and even breakfast!) but your entry must really showcase the potato.

Our potato contest closes November 15 at 6pm E.T. so get cooking!

The winner will receive a gift certificate from the Food52 shop.

How to Enter

If you're entering an existing recipe you've already published on the site, go to that recipe page. Hit "Edit Recipe" (under the photo), scroll down, hit "Submit my recipe to a contest," select the latest contest ("Your Best Potato, All Dressed Up!"), and save.

If you want to add a new recipe, head to your profile page, select "Recipes," and click "Add a Recipe." Then upload it, hit "Submit my recipe to a contest," select the latest contest, and save.

We read every submission, and test as many as possible. But that’s a lot of reading and a lot of testing, so we’re counting on your help, too. Scroll through the submission pages and make (and favorite) any recipe that catches your eye. Then, share feedback on the recipe page. We'll take all this feedback into account as we narrow down the top five, which will be announced December 20.

Here's a full refresher on how the whole contest process works.

Sooo sad! I didn’t read the title and thought it was going to be a recipe for the potatoes pictured. Now I can’t stop thinking about them…

Hm- potatoes are fun to play around with and are good subjects for varying degrees of caramelization, absorption of various flavored liquids, combination with herbs, adding fat in the numerous clever ways favored by professional chefs, but I always come back to the best way being steamed new potatoes with butter, salt and pepper.

My favorite: smashed with lots of butter and sour cream/creme fraiche
