Community Picks -- Mint

by:
July 19, 2012

Once again, we want to give a big thanks to all of our volunteer recipe testers for your thoughtful comments and for helping us continue to strengthen our recipe recommendations. You can read each tester's comments by clicking through to the Community Picks recipes — the comments are at the top. And even if the recipe you tested wasn't chosen as a CP, please feel free to leave your testing notes in the recipe's comments section. Constructive criticism is always encouraged!

I tested the Minty Crispy Shrimp with Minty Basil Cilantro Tomato Cocktail Sauce, which was delicious by the way. I looked everywhere for an email confirming I was on test panel because I know the notes are due today. I cant seem to find instructions on the site or anything that refers to a notes section.

First, if recipe testing indicates they are from “Food52 notes” then the recipe would truly be an EP award not a CP.

And, now that I think of it, community picking only happens via the Editors pick list; the community gets to pick a recipe from a list compiled by the Editors, the community’s role is to test and review the editors pick, and, in the end, the recipe could turn into a community pick (CP). No matter which way I see it, in the end, this is still an Editors Pick (EP).

The community views and comments the recipes as they are being posted; choosing from the best of those for testing would equal more of a community pick, in my mind.

Your thoughts? Thanks.

PS - my comment reply is in re: to Kenzi' comment, below.

I tested a recipe and did not see my comments. I thought maybe only one was chosen. Is there a place where all testers comments are noted? Thanks for clarifying

First, we'll second the congratulations to all on the beautiful recipes (you never let us down, time and time again). To clarify: "Food52's Testing Notes" appears in community-tested recipes that lacked headnotes when turned back in. But no, this doesn't mean the end of community-testing -- our system is still alive and well, and we always welcome your comments and feedback! All of the Mint Community Picks that included headnotes, as of this point, should be updated with their community-written notes.

Thanks for clarifying!

Thanks, Kenzi, for the explanation. I am glad that you updated some of the recipes with reviews from community members. Love reading everyone's feedback!

I apologize in advance for appearing dense, but does a recipe testing review inherently contain a headnote? What would an example of a recipe review be that would not by definition include a headnote? And are all recipes being tested by three testers, or are there instances when a recipe is tested by only one tester?

Congrats to all! I was wondering the same thing as CIV. When we see "FOOD52's testing notes," does that mean that the editors tested the recipes and provided the notes, or have you published notes from community testers but just omitted the testers' names? Thanks for clarifying!

Yes, I had the same question, Emily.

boulangere July 19, 2012
I tested one of them, but only the F52 testing notes were posted. Confusing.

boulangere July 19, 2012
I'm sure others also tested the same and other recipes, but curious that only F52 results were posted. Is this the end of community testing?

I am wondering the same thing.

Congratulations to all! My mint is exploding and I can't wait to try some of these tempting recipes. Thank you for your lovely tasting notes, A&M - glad you enjoyed it!

Love seeing all of these mouth-watering, inventive recipes. Congrats to all! Several of these recipes I intend to make very soon since I have copious amounts of mint in my garden. Just one question though for the food52 editors: Will you no longer be publishing recipe notes from the food52 community? Missed seeing some of those this week.
