I don't have any homemade beef stock on hand and wondered, if you used store bought, what brand is best...I know low sodium is a must. Thanks, Eydie

Eydie Desser: Thank you for your help. That's surprising! Will try Rachel Ray's stock

Colavita makes the Rachel Ray stock, which is quite good. It's turning up in more markets.

I like Pacific Nature low sodium. I've never seen the Rachel Ray brand anywhere!

I second the Pacific Nature vote.

Thank you for that. Pacific Nature is usually what I use. But prefer homemade.

Per a Cook's Illustrated taste test done about a year ago, the Rachel Ray beef stock was the winner. It's also a low sodium product, and doesn't contain any funky additives. Per her website it can be purchased at Wal-Mart.

It's also available on the west coast at:
A&J Fine Foods, Albertson's, Andronico's, Bristol Farms, Fred Meyer, Gelson's, Mollie Stone's, Nob Hill Foods, QFC, Raley's, Ralphs, SaveMart, Stater Bros.
