Normally I'd answer "barbeque" but this time of year I have to ask, are you referring to a corned beef brisket?
Don't BBQ. Oven braised is best for a flat cut. For BBQ you want the flat and the point cuts together.
You think the flat half will react differently under smoke if it's physically connected to the point?
