What chocolate is an acceptable substitute for unsweetened chocolate for brownies? Semi? Bitter?

For years, I've made brownies with both, along with some cocoa powder:

You can use semi sweet or bitter sweet but you might need to adjust the sugar just a little to compensate for the added sweetness.
