What would go well as a side with fish tacos?

My brother is coming over next week for dinner and I want to make fish tacos, but I feel like I need something to go with them. However, it's still cold here, so what are some good hot sides that would work? (As an added note, he's allergic to avocados, so I I have to avoid those).

I usually serve a spanish yellow rice with my fish tacos. Even the kids look forward to that meal!

lapadia's apple jalapeño slaw, which we make for almost every Mexican themed dinner we have: http://food52.com/recipes/8746-jalapeno-apple-slaw-with-honey-lime-vinaigrette

I double up on the vinaigrette because my peeps like lots of juicy dressing - but I feel the recipe is great as it stands.

oops - just noticed you want a hot side. Sorry - the spicy Chicken soup on this site is good - don't serve avocados as garnish.
