If I were to omit the dates, would I want to backfill that amount with more apples?

Hi Deirdra,

You could back fill that amount (although it's small enough not to matter much), or you could substitute the dates with any dried fruit soaked in any liquid. For example, I made this last night with dried cherries soaked in vodka and it turned out great. You could use raisins or currants soaked in orange juice, apple juice, or even wine if you wanted. Or...dried apples soaked in port! Yum.
