Could I pop plain popcorn in the microwave and then add the toppings? what's the equivalent of kernels in popped corn

1/2 cup of popcorn kernels (from recipe) is about 4oz by weight of popcorn kernels, which is 4 to 6 quarts of POPPED popcorn by volume. And while, yes, you can substitute microwave bag popcorn for fresh, stove top popped popcorn, from a health and taste perspective I think it's a poor substitution in general (personal opinion).

Last sentence should read: What's the equivalent of kernels (in the ingredient list) to popped corn (since I'm thinking of using the microwaveable bags)
