Buttered Corn and Noodles Question

When I heated the corn kernels in the bacon fat and butter, the kernels popped like popcorn all over the kitchen. What happened and is there anything I can do about it?

Probably lots of liquid in the corn kernel which caused the popping and splattering in the fat & butter. Might want to lower the heat when you add the corn.
