Substitute for meringue powder in sugar skulls?

I want to make sugar skulls for day of the dead. The recipe calls for meringue powder and says one product works the best. Problem is they only sell it on the east and west coast and I don't have time to ship. Please help! I really want these to be perfect!

You can use egg whites instead of meringue powder. This question came up 2 years ago with regard to royal icing. Check out this link
