A question about a recipe: Mediterranean Cauliflower Rice with Smoky Red Pepper Sauce

I have a question about the recipe "Mediterranean Cauliflower Rice with Smoky Red Pepper Sauce" from Gena Hamshaw. What can I substitute for the date in this recipe? I don't really love the idea of buying a single date for a recipe-- and I don't much like them on their own, anyway, so I don't know how much I'll love it in the sauce.

Molasses (pomegranate molasses would be nice, if possible) or good maple syrup. Or brown sugar. I would start with 1/2 Tablespoon and adjust to taste.

You can use any sweetener. Brown sugar, maple syrup or my current favorite, palm sugar. Dates are sugar bombs. Honey would be fine too.
