What are you making for the Superbowl?

Anything fun? I'm making tempura-battered fried pickle spears with a siracha ranch dipping sauce, chili (recipe on this site) for certain. Only 2 of us this year. Dessert I'll pick up.

Due to Hubby's reflux problem, we can no longer enjoy chilli together. So I'm using the ground beef I thawed to make another kind of stew, rich with mushrooms and vegetables.

Have you ever seen a recipe titled "Broccoli Surprise?" It's in one of my cookbooks: "3 heads of broccoli, 3 scoops of chocolate ice cream, 1 tsp. cinnamon, 2 c. milk. Blend to "liquefy" in a blender, serve in a tall glass with a little umbrella." No, I am not making this for the party, but I will tell you that this is a recipe from an Arizonan, and I'm posting this comment because the broccoli is an Eagle's color, the chocolate ice cream represents the football, and the reddish cinnamon might be for the Chiefs. The umbrella is for too much sun to the head for Arizonans with silly cookbooks.

Just the two of us..
Pulled pork and white queso nacho mountain, with all the usual suspects: guac, sour cream, jalapeños….
And to keep with family Super Bowl tradition, Baileys Brownies.
Enjoy, All!

Lentil soup - this one, kept warm in the crock pot https://food52.com/recipes/2348-lentil-and-sausage-soup-for-a-cold-winter-s-night -- Tartine Bread Country Bread and Polenta Bread boules, made by me, on cutting board with plenty of good Irish butter, carrot and beet salad, two different traybakes for dessert (easy to eat!), with my quince, lemon and brandy sauce (recipe posted here) in a pitcher on the side (okay, makes it less easy to eat, but who's complaining), big bowl of mandarines, clementines and tangelos. Cheese board with pears + fruit knives and a variety of chutneys. Lavash crackers (my recipe, posted here) + Genius hummus as well. The usual beverages. (Not your usual Super Bowl food selections, but it's what my people like!) ;o)

It all sounds good, but best of all is the quince, lemon and brandy sauce....mmmm

We're having some version of "Frito Chili pie". Not my ideal, but the crowd rules! For a sweet, I'll make the call on Ambrosia. Maybe some orange sherbet mimosa's. Toasted nut mix, probably David Lebovitz's version.

Not quite sure what we're having yet but I'm thinking of this Poor Man's Shrimp Cocktail which I've made before and is genius!

I have a feeling we'll do 7-Layer Dip, but with nice ingredients--maybe real crema instead of sour cream, homemade refried beans, etc. So delicious. We're not really in it for the football. It's definitely an excuse to eat wings and nachos.

It's just 2 of us so I'm sure we are going to have way to much food, but I'm making chicken wings with blue cheese dip, sweet potato waffle fry black bean nachos, and veggies and greek yogurt dill dip. I was going to make hummus pizza but I decided that would definitely be too much.

Oh, and kettle corn.

I'm holding back because we're having people bring stuff but....I'm going retro! Pigs in a blanket, cold vegetable pizza on croissants, Pioneer woman's, "knock you naked," brownies. :-) I might make some orange simple syrup so I can have minty orange gimlets.

retro is my fave. im going to buy some pigs in a blanket. long day of TV watching (puppy & kitty bowl, football & downtown abbey!)

Beef fajitas, a nacho recipe from Food and Wine, Budin de Maiz con Rajas y Queso, (cornbread with roasted peppers) from Gran Cocina Latina, my own ceviche recipe and blood orange margaritas. I don't even like football but I can't wait to eat my menu!
