Cuisinart blade recall -- any information re. Replacement?

I'm going through food processor withdrawal. Any word on when replacement blades will be sent? Also thinking about switching brands. Any advice on better options?

I ordered my replacements blades in April and they claimed they sent them in October but they were not received. After calling and emailing a terse note to customer service early November, they told me that they were out of stock and didn't know when they would be back in stock. They arrived today. They are beautiful - worth the wait as I love my Cuisinart.

After no reply from Cuisinart, I took mine back to Costco and was given a full price refund. I had planned to buy another food processor there but the only one they have is a smaller one from Cuisinart. I am not sure I want to buy another one from this brand just yet.

Amazing things happen. Just got the replacement blade. No rivets on new model. I'm really looking forward to using it.

the latest (aka more of the same): "Currently, we are unable to provide you with an exact time frame of when you will receive your replacement blade. Your blade will be shipped to you in or after June"

i just gave in and purchased a kitchenaid food processor.

My replacement blade finally came 2 days ago - I submitted to Connair back in mid December.

UPDATE #2: 2nd out of two replacement blades came in the mail this past Saturday. Hopefully that means that most other people affected by the recall are getting their new blades now and this hassle will be through for most of the food processor loving Cuisinart owners out there.

There is something the matter with this company. My blade was fine but I needed a new workbowl. I ordered it through the Cuisinart web store. Weeks passed, Phone calls. Promises. Backordered into infinity. Nothing. Finally, an unpleasant rep allowed as how I would be better off going directly through Conair. Say what? I thought I was doing that. It turns out that the web store is a separate (and completely inefficient) entity. Once I got hold of Conair directly, I had the replacement within days---and it was cheaper, too.

UPDATE: The first of the two replacement blades I requested arrived in the mail today. It's being sent UPS SurePost, totally unannounced by Conair/Cuisinart. If you use My USPS on post office website, it's possible you see it appear as "UPS MAIL INNOVATION" once UPS hands it over to the postal service. It comes with a single sheet of instructions so you don't lacerate yourself trying to extricate the new blade from the box, and basically it says to put the old blade in the box and "dispose of it". I don't really know what to do with the old blade because I'm pretty sure my trash collector will complain if anything like that is in my garbage.

Cuisinart (Conair) is telling everyone June. In other words they have no idea when they will ship. I am going to research all of the brands sold by Conair and avoid them all in the future!

I sent Cuisinart an email a couple of weeks ago asking about when blades would be sent. Kept it very light and said I missed my whizzie machine. Got an answer - "your blade will be coming between now and May." !! Gee, could ya maybe be a little more definite.

I just check with Cuisinart a few minutes ago. They are still saying that my blade won't be shipped until June, which will be 7 months without a food processor. I'm done. I'm buying a different brand this weekend and never going back.

They told me 4-6 weeks, but that was in mid-January. They said they are "carefully making new ones" and quality takes time. Really? How long can it take to produce a bunch of replacement blades with today's automated mass manufacturing systems? It's not like they're making each one by hand... Seriously.

Kind of feels like a scam to me. Desperate people who cook a lot and use the unit often are scared to use their old Cuisinart with its most-used blade. So they go looking for a new blade. Can't find it? Well, can't wait either, they need it. Go buy a whole new Cuisinart! Miraculously, those already are fully equipped with "safe" blades. Hmmm.... $$$ in the pocket of guess who? Tidy trick! Sounds like a good class-action lawsuit waiting to happen... Got mine from Costco. Still have not received it. Very unhappy with this nonsense.

Honestly I wish I could just sell mine at garage sale and, after forking over an additional $100-200+, buy a Robot Coupe. Those things are built like a tank.

Jan W. March 26, 2017
or a bit (read: $500-1K) more...inflation is a terrible thing.

Lainie March 25, 2017
I sent in my request for a new blade on 12/16/16 and received an email with a recipe book on 2/4/17 - nothing since then.

I am still using my food processor. I saw no cracks in the blade and it is close to 20 years old. I actually see no reason to look at replacements - Cuisinart had a manufacturing issue - they are dealing with it - it could happen to any company and frequently does.

louisez March 23, 2017
Still waiting, too. Sigh. Six months seems like a long time to wait....

Bevi March 23, 2017
Still waiting....

I'm glad people are still updating this question. I haven't received any correspondence from Cuisinart since the conciliatory email I received on 4 February. Of course now it's almost April. I think I will call and/or e-mail them to find out the status, but based on the latest post it looks like it will be at least May or June before most of us receive replacements. That's a lot of missed cooking opportunities....

P.S. - Thanks for providing that toll-free number here Xinae.

Jan W. March 23, 2017
UPDATE - E-mailed the Cuisinart provided e-mail address, they responded this: "According to our records, your blade won''t ship out til after June sometime. Now this is just an estimate and you could be receiving it a lot sooner than that."

Not much in the way of encouragement there, but at least I can complain if I still don't have a replacement blade once June has come and gone.

I requested my replacement in late December and my most recent email update from them (a week or two ago) stated that my ship date would be sometime in May.

[I am still using my 25-yr old original blade though, with no problems. Mine is so old the blades were still being made in Japan. Apparently the problematic versions were Chinese made.]

Xinae March 8, 2017
I requested a replacement blade in December 2016 via their website form. I called today, (877-339-2534), and was told my estimated ship time is June 2017.

Bevi February 4, 2017
I requested a new blade December 13 and still waiting. An email came today - basically asking me to keep on waiting patiently.

Just got another e-mail from Cuisinart regarding the replacement blades - it reads as follows:

"Dear Customer,
Thank you so much for your ongoing patience. We want to keep you advised of the status of your free Cuisinart replacement blade. Our blades are fabricated using precise manufacturing processes, which of course means, that they take some time to produce. We are producing new blades as rapidly as possible to meet the demand resulting from this replacement program.

When your blade is about to be shipped we will send you an email so you can anticipate when it will arrive to the address you indicated on your replacement blade registration. In the meantime, you are able to use all other cutting implements and accessories that may have come with your Cuisinart food processor.

As a token of our gratitude and appreciation of your ongoing patience, please download this interactive recipe book for your use. We put this book together exclusively for those consumers impacted by the recall.

Cuisinart strives to provide you with the best service possible and if you have any questions or concerns please contact us via our email address: [email protected]

Thank you again for your patience and we apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

Cuisinart"

Yeah that doesn't inspire much confidence that I'll be getting my replacement blade any time soon.

Robert C. February 5, 2017
I just received the same. Trying to placate us with an e-recipe book that requires their grill (cheap sales ploy, if you ask me) suggests we won't be getting the blade anytime soon.

Thank you all.
I just got an email from them saying I will get an email from them when my replacement blade is ready (sounds like no time soon, since the blades are "precision instruments" which take a while to make), and offering a download of recipes for me and fellow sufferers in compensation. I'm opting for patience for the moment. Wish the old blades had been more carefully made "precision instruments." I may eventually research the Breville. Again, thanks for the advice.

Greenstuff February 4, 2017
I never got an email like the one you received, but I did get a replacement blade yesterday.

I recently bought the Breville food processor after having many Cuisinart ones. I am thrilled with it and would highly recommend it.

LouLou April 10, 2017
Breville is what they were using in a cooking class I took - I'm almost tempted to swap my Cuisinart for one!

Jan W. January 27, 2017
As I have two of the affected products, I requested replacements for each using the recall website. I completed that on 13 December - they sent me a follow-up email on 22 December which says that when the replacement blades are about to be shipped they'll send an e-mail with that information. So far I haven't received any e-mails from Cuisinart since then. I'm assuming it'll be at least a few more weeks before anyone in the USA gets a replacement blade as I'm sure there were countless thousands of food processors affected.

Greenstuff January 28, 2017
I also requested a replacement on 13 December. More than six weeks and counting.

Do any of you have a link for me to get a replacement blade?

I ordered mine about 2 weeks before christmas and got it in about a week (though I'm in canada). Then i got home to see another one had arrived, not sure why but oh well. As far as switching brands this is a brutal hiccup but Cuisinart generally makes really good, sturdy products. My mother is using hers from the 80s and it's still in great shape.

Valhalla January 27, 2017
I requested mine the day after the news broke and have received it. I ordered one for my mom weeks later and hers has not arrived yet. I would use the old blade and continue to inspect it. They provided a confirmation number in the email I received after making my request, so you may be able to use that to get an update on the website or with a phone call.
