I agree with mashed potatoes and either lingonberries or cranberry sauce or am. Cathy Barrow has a great recipe you can find online for raspberry cranberry preserves. That would be delicious as well.

I almost always serve small round potatoes and I also often serve Brussels sprouts. For me, Swedish meatballs are food from my childhood, and those three round balls give me some childish pleasure. Plus, they're good! Lingonberries are a must for me. But the lightly pickled cucumbers that are also traditional, I save for other meals. (They really don't go with Brussels sprouts!)

mashed potatoes and lingonberry jam... substitute some sort of tart jam, like sour cherry or make a cranberry compote if you can't find lingonberries.
