Homemade yogurt fizzing

I've made dairy-free yogurt twice now, once using coconut milk yogurt and once using almond milk yogurt (both store bought) for starters. Both times, my yogurt turned out fizzy/carbonated. What am I doing wrong?! I'm using a yogurt maker and follow all instructions. I don't get it.

You might try adding your question in the comments of this related post: https://food52.com/blog/16269-the-beginner-s-guide-to-making-impossibly-creamy-yogurt -- there are a lot of yogurt-makers who have commented and might be able to help solve the fizzing issue.
