Trying to recall a recipe -- possibly Diana Kennedy?

A braise/stew with potatoes, tomato, beef. I remember it calling for quartering potatoes lengthwise, layered in a the bottom of the slow cooker. The meat layered on top, with tomatoes. It was SO GOOD. I thought it had been originally written for goat, with beef sub. But now I can't find it!

AH! Offline friend to the rescue. It was rick bayless's birria jalisco-style. That led us to try the Diana Kennedy essential cuisine Birria recipe. Thanks anyway!
