How long can I leave raw steak on the counter?

I was attempting to leave two 1" thick new york strips on my counter to come up to temperature, but left them out for a little over an hour. I took a temperature of the raw meat and it read ~65 F - I then proceeded to cook to 145 F - safe to eat? Worried about leaving it out too long.
