Hi Lee! I just wanted to follow up on Gammy's great response here: Yes, a Smithey cast iron will work on all cooktops, including glass, but we'd definitely be careful—you wouldn't want to shake or drag the pan at all and scratch the surface of your cooktop!
Not familiar with the Smithy cast iron line, but if they have a flat bottom, they should be fine. You just don't want a pan with a ridge circling the bottom, like some modern pans do, as the ridge keeps most of the pan slightly off the heat and creates a "hot spot" ring in the pan. I have a glass top range, and love using a couple of older cast iron fry pans but also love the ease of cleaning the smooth top. However, with cast iron, along with enamel dutch ovens, because of the weight, you may be tempted to slide the pans off the heat... don't! Carefully lift the pans as they can scratch the surface glass.
