Can you thaw turkey under cold running water without submerging it???

My roommate is trying to thaw out the thanksgiving turkey in the kitchen sink under just cold running water without having it submerged in water at all??? Is this even a safe way to do it, or even effective at all? We don’t have to pay our water bill and I don’t think it’s using electricity (I hope) but still I think it’s ridiculous to have the water running for so long + I don’t trust this method. Someone please help ASAP

Hi Jake, you'll want to submerge the turkey in cold water and change out the water every 30 minutes. Running water is probably not the most effective way to thaw the turkey at this stage! In this article, writer Katie MacDonald suggests this method: "Defrost the bird is in cold water breast-side down, changing the water every 30 minutes. In this method, budget 30 minutes of thawing per pound." Then you'll want to cook it immediately after it thaws. https://food52.com/blog/24481-how-to-defrost-a-turkey

Hope this helps! Happy Thanksgiving!
