How long should they be cooking for??

Approx how long should the onions be cooking total? From this recipe, I’m confused if it should be closer to 5min or 30min....

(I’m making it now and can’t tell if I have a “gentle” or too forceful bubbling.... knowing approx how long they should take to brown would help gauge this).
